Re: Installing Serpent2 with OpenMP under MacOS Catalina

Don't know if you're still checking this, but I'd highly advise using Linux. It's much lighter weight, faster, and free to use via VirtManager or direct booting via a USB flash drive.

If you're newer to GNU/Linux, I'd recommend starting with Lubuntu. It's clean, fast, and works very well for Serpent.

Is there a significant advantage to 128 GB of RAM over 64 for depletion calculations?

I have to do some pretty hefty depletion calculations with multiple depletion zones (usually in the area of 1000 active generations and 10000 neutrons per generation). I've been measuring buying a server with 64 GB of RAM and a server with 128 GB of RAM. Since the money is coming out of my pocket, I...

Serpent Wiki Down?

Greetings, I tried to access the a page in the Serpent Wiki earlier today but was met by a 404 message. At that time, other pages on the wiki worked fine for me. However, as the day went I was met by more 404 messages for different wiki pages. I've never had anything like this occur. Just to verify ...

Is it legal to publicly post code intended for Serpent 2?

Greetings, I've been working on a fairly basic program that allows users to easily simulate a Pu-239, U-235, and U-233 fueled FLiBe molten salt reactor. The program allows users to input fuel composition and play around with control rod and other geometric aspects, rather than relying upon an infini...

Looking for Serpent cross section directories

I recently tried to run a molten salt input I found on Serpent 2.0 beta and received the following error: Unable to locate cross section directory file "endfb71_edep.xsdata" Environment variable SERPENT_DATA is set to "/home/software/serpent/endfb70" I'd imagine that this is due to how I don't belie...

Re: Error from Wiki Example Input File

Thank you for your advice.

That's strange, I used the BWR input not too long ago and it didn't give me any errors with the colon. Why might that have been?

Error from Wiki Example Input File

Greetings, I set up Serpent a short while ago and have been working with some of the example Wiki inputs. The Wiki input file I had a problem with was the "2D CANDU fuel bundle geometry" input, which can be seen here (http://serpent.vtt.fi/mediawiki/index.php/2D_CANDU_fuel_bundle_geometry). I import...

How much RAM should I allocate to the virtual machine running Serpent?

I'm making a virtual machine with VirtualBox and it's asking me how large I want to make the memory. I've heard the number8-10 GB thrown around on the forum a lot, but I think that just has to do with physical hardware. Let me know what I need to do. Thank you.

Which Linux distribution of Linux works best for Serpent?

I'm currently setting up a Linux VM on my HP laptop (originally Windows 10). I was planning on using Ubuntu, but I was curious if one was most efficient. Thanks
