Re: Interactive plotter for Serpent

If you want to keep developing this further, just let me know what you need from the Serpent plotter routine. Jaakko, due to the typical lack of time, I develop this plotter just to save some time on plotting operations. Therefore, new commands appear when I get annoyed by their absence. There is a...

Interactive plotter for Serpent

Serpent is an excellent tool for calculation of simple geometries and repeated structures. It can be used also for full-core modeling, however, one may find it a bit hard to define a complex geometry without the union operator. Another feature, which one can miss is an interactive plotter for lookin...

Option to turn off boundary surfaces plotting

Jaakko, At the moment boundary surfaces are displayed when there are no errors, and turned off when something is wrong to make erroneous regions more visible. Complex surfaces are composed of a number of simple ones, and the plotter sometimes displays these simple surfaces where the user do no expec...

Re: Distances in Pin and Vertical stack definition

Pin and particle objects are actually special cases of nests, which can be defined as: nest <i> <surf> <mat1> <d1> <mat2> <d2> ... where <surf> is the type of nested surface and <d1> <d2> etc. are the parameters. The material entries can be replaced by universes using the fill-command. Nest should ...

Re: Distances in Pin and Vertical stack definition

Vertical stacks are handled differently, because they are basically lattice structures. I'll look into that later. One more thing which would be great to have in the vertical stack is filling by a material. Actually, vertical stacks have more in common with pins (nests?) than with lattices. Would i...

Jaakko, could you also allow a mixed definition (just in case if some layers must be fixed):

Code: Select all

pin 1
fuel -0.5 % equivalent to 0.5
void 0.55 % eq. to -0.05
clad -0.1 % eq. to 0.65

Re: Memory limitation: 16 GB

This is probably trivial, but did you run the calculations in single-processor or MPI mode? Serpent cannot use shared memory in parallel calculation, so the memory demand is multiplied by the number of MPI tasks. For these burnup tests we did single runs. Jaakko, do you think that one day Serpent w...

Re: Memory limitation: 16 GB

This is a bit strange, because the information at /proc/meminfo is basically used for an additional check - to stop the calculation before memory allocation inevitably fails. Are you sure you didn't run your failed OS X 10.5 calculation with an earlier version (< 1.1.12) that had the issues with in...

RSS feed for the forum

Jaakko,
It would be really great to get the latest forum posts in RSS feed, because the subscription emails are not very informative. There is a plugin for phpBB3 which can easily make such RSS feed

Re: Memory limitation: 16 GB

In some systems (OSX?) the info is not available, the check is not performed, and the calculation may crash when memory allocation fails. Yes, it is true - there is no /proc/cpuinfo file in OS X. However, this is a problem only for OS X 10.5 where burn-up calculation crash due to memory allocation ...
