Re: Cell %s has no neighbours with surface %s - not always good

Checking for geometry errors is one purpose why the (potential) cell neighbours are kept in a list. The second purpose is related to the tracking routine. When the neutron crosses a surface, it should save some CPU time in complex geometries to look for the next cell in the list of neighbours than ...

Re: External source mode: support of MCNPX and GEANT4

Just out of curiosity, have you tried running Serpent calculations with your 150 MeV data libraries? According to the information about JEFF 3.1.1 on NEA website , some of evaluations have upper incident neutron energy of 200 MeV (for example, Fe-56, Pb-204). For Serpent calculations, we always use...

Re: External source mode: support of MCNPX and GEANT4

The problem with ADS applications is that I have very limited experience in neutron physics above 20 MeV where most ACE format cross section libraries end. I have no idea what happens beyond that. Serpent should be able to handle almost every ENDF reaction law in the data format, but the physics is...

External source mode: support of MCNPX and GEANT4

Citing Jaakko from another topic The most resent version of the code has an external source calculation mode that is still under development. One of the features that is planned but not yet implemented is the capability to read and write source distributions. I would like to ask for a possibility to...

Re: Indicate if debug mode is enabled

Great! Thanks, Jaakko! When I check configuration of a Serpent executable, I normally use sss -version , so it will be very useful to have this information in the title as well. Also, the command line parameter would help to disable the debug routines for a specific run, which allows to have just on...

Heat deposit in non-fissile materials

One of the few remaining reasons to use MCNP in our work is calculation of heating of non-fissile materials. I hope it is already in Serpent development roadmap, and if it is not, then I strongly support adding this feature. To go further, adding evaluation of radiation damage both in DPA, and in fa...

Planes parallel to an axis

Sometimes, it is not very desirable to calculate tangents for defining planes angle, and it is probably common enough to have planes parallel to an axis, so it would be useful to define special surface types for them: PPX Y Z angle_between_surface_and_Y PPY X Z angle_between_surface_and_X PPZ X Y an...

Cell %s has no neighbours with surface %s - not always good

This error checker is not always reasonable. Imagine, for example, that your model has a big cube made of many small ones (Rubik's Cube). If you want to specify the space outside the big cube, then you cannot just use the outside surface (e.g. an additional surface for the whole cube) - you have to ...

Indicate if debug mode is enabled

Since, the debug mode can possibly be a reason for calculation crash, it may be useful to add the following lines to printtitle.c : #ifdef DEBUG printf(" - Debug mode is enabled\n\n"); #endif Also, it may be useful to have an activating parameter for the debug mode: sss input -debug or may be deacti...

Re: Pad surface disappears if angle 270

Jaakko,

Yes, the issue is solved now.
So far it was the only case when objects were disappearing.
