Re: Optimization mode in dynamic simulations

Hi, the subdivision in the time binning definition you link to the set nps card should not affect the physics of your problem. Modelling the same total period with smaller or longer time-intervals will affect your simulation in two ways: Serpent samples the same number of initial neutrons (live + de...

Re: How to set Am-242m to 95242?

Hi, do you mean that your original xsdir file has 95242 representing Am-242m? If so, that will get processed to the xsdata file produces by xsdirconvert as something like ... 95242.03c 95242.03c 1 95242 0 242.059415 300 0 <path-to-acefile> Am-242.03c 95242.03c 1 95242 0 242.059415 300 0 <path-to-ace...

Re: volume issues

For the second question: Pin structures are axially infinite. Of course, if you fill pins into an axially truncated cell, the geometry itself will not be axially infinite. For some ideas on creating axially movable control rods, see Part 5 of the Serpent tutorial: http://serpent.vtt.fi/mediawiki/ind...

Re: volume issues

For the first question, see notes in the Wiki: http://serpent.vtt.fi/mediawiki/index.p ... al_volumes
and also bottom of page 9 in the Serpent 1 manual.

Re: How to obtain thermal scattering data for ZrH

Hi, You can directly check the different international nuclear data libraries such as JEFF and ENDF/B. Here are some links for JEFF-3.3 and ENDF/B-VIII: https://www.oecd-nea.org/dbdata/jeff/jeff33/tsl.html https://nucleardata.lanl.gov/ACE/Production/Lib80x.html Note that you will need thermal scatte...

Re: Error when compiling Serpent 2.1.32:missing file

Code: Select all

make clean
make
might also help by getting rid of any lingering object files from previous attempts.

Re: Odd detector heating outputs

The "dm" option in detectors allows you to only score interactions happening in a certain material.

Re: External source mode in subcritical reactor

Hi,

You are tallying both the neutron flux and photon flux here. Do they both show a difference between Serpent and MCNP/OpenMC or only one of them?

Do you use the same normalization for all codes?

Re: Burnup problem detector flux normalization?

Hi, You can only set one flux normalization at a time. If you want to set the power level of your system for burnup purposes your detector output will correspond to normalization at that power level as Ana described. If you want to have detector results per unit source rate when fixing the system po...
