Cores vs. Threads for OMP?

Post by jordancrowell » Mon Jul 13, 2020 7:47 pm

I am slightly confused about running a simulation with OMP. My computer has 64 cores and 128 threads. I am confused on whether to run a serpent input with the number of cores I have or the number of threads? For example:

(1) With Cores: sss2 -omp 64 input
(2) With threads: sss2 -omp 128 input

Should I be using (1) or (2)?

The best you can do is to test our input with both options to see whether you can have any gains from using all the threads.
