about decstep daystep

Post by alexey28 » Wed Aug 12, 2020 11:09 am

Hello!
if my reactor 243 days work then 30 days not work then 91 work and finally 61 day not work:

is the next note correct?

Code: Select all

 dep daystep 243
dep decstep 30
dep daystep 91
dep decstep 61

Yes: you provide steps or time intervals when there is irradiation, followed by a downtime. However, you might want to refine the irradiation periods: time step length is an important parameter to consider during depletion calculations.
You can see some examples about irradiation history in the Serpent manual http://montecarlo.vtt.fi/download/Serpent_manual.pdf, section 8.7.2.

thank you!!

i have read manual 8.7.2.
Could you please answer for some more questions:
1) with each "dep" we should note "set power N"?
2) What the difference between

Code: Select all

set power 0 dep daystep 100
and

Code: Select all

dep decstep 100
?

As Ana said you should use more steps during the irradiation. You can have a look at this thesis to get some more information on Monte Carlo burnup calculations. Regarding your questions:

1) If you use the same power for all irradiation steps you don't need to have multiple set power cards.
2) With decstep transport cycle is not run and you save a lot of computational time.
