Track-length detector

Post by davide.chersola » Tue Dec 15, 2015 5:17 pm

Dear All,
I need to create a detector in a little gold volume using the "track-length detector".
I found this discussion
http://ttuki.vtt.fi/serpent/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2104
about this topic, but I am not sure if it is my case.

I create this detector:
det 1301 dc 6001 dm m10

How I can apply the "track lenght" to this detector instead of collision estimator?
The track lenght will be applied to all detectors in the input file or only to this one?

Thank for help!!!
Davide

Dear Davide,

Currently, the track-length detector can only be applied to detector surfaces (not detector cells). The detector can thus be defined

Code: Select all

det 1301 dtl <surface>
such that the detector is scored within <surface>. In case the detector cannot be described by a simple surface, you can define multiple detectors to describe the geometry and sum the results.

The detector is (at least) currently limited to surfaces only, since its implementation is strongly based on the surface current detector and its data structures.

Best regards,

Tuomas

EDIT: Corrected the suggested detector definition by removing "dm m10".

Tuomas thank you for your answer!
I tried using this command:

det 1301 dtl 701 dm m10

surf 701 cylz 0.0 161.60 0.50 62 63

mat m10 -8.1169E-6
79197.03c .0

but the code said that:

"Material bins not allowed with curent detector"

I'm using Serpent 2.1.23

Hi again,

Sorry for not paying attention to the dm part in the first place. You will have to remove also the "dm m10" to make the detector work properly (as indicated also in the error message). Thus,

Code: Select all

det 1301 dtl 701
should provide you the track-length estimate of the flux at the position of the detector. You can apply also responses to this detector, just like for collision detectors, in case you are interested in calculating some specific reaction rates in the target (for example "dr 102 m10").

The dm only applies as a "filter", just like the dc and ds cards in normal detectors. Basically it tells Serpent to score the detector only when a collision occurs within the material specified by the dm parameter. I guess you should not need such a functionality in this case, since the detector can be defined just by its outer surface. In any case, the special detector type "dtl" cannot be used together with any of the "ds, dc or dm" cards.
