"Stair-wise" depletion of U235 in thin fissile coating

Hi!
Looking at a plot of TOT_MASS(303,:) from the dep.m file where ID 303 is U-235 in a fission chamber. I suspect that the "stair-wise" look of the plot is due to the fact that the fissile coating is so thin that little neutrons gets tallied in the volume (for example flux getting tallied only in some of the steps?). For example the build-up of Co-60 in a larger volume next to it looks very smooth. Is my suspicion true or is it something else?

Seems like a reasonable assumption. You get zero depletion rate when there is no collisions at all.
